If we're overwhelmed by something now, it's not worth trying to dive even deeper when things really ramp up.
If you find yourself in the underperforming category with something you're working on now, this is when you want to spend more time building up your skills. Don't worry so much about long-term goals and just focus on getting the basics down, making sure you fully understand what you're dealing with, and looking for small steps forward from there. This energy can be frustrating for those who want to fast track to an end-point, but the thing about experience is it prepares you for a lot of different things you might have to face, not just one thing you might envision in your mind. Having lofty goals isn't the worst thing in the world, but you can set goals that are too high, but that you also aren't emotionally ready to deal with not completing. There can be a lot of assuming that things will go according to plan here, which isn't necessarily going to be the case. This energy won't be that bad if you can inject a bit more realism into you expectations though. Ask yourself what's most likely to happen and work from there, rather than starting sky high and watching yourself fall short.
