Daily Horoscope for Cancer Summary

With the events in France last week, I think people struggle to process what goes on with it all. It’s obviously horribly sad, but I think the impact these days only extends so far. What I mean by that is we live in a world where the selective intake of news is at an all time high. There’s just so much out there to take in – we can’t possibly read or watch all of it. There’s news from all different sources; you can watch it on TV, read the local paper, read or watch it on the internet. There’s reporting from people who are there first hand, and there’s opinions from people thousands of miles away. So people these days typically choose what news they want to ingest and process it that way. What you often see as a result is the further detached people are from a situation like that, the more comfortable they are throwing their own potentially inflammatory statements into the mix, or the easier it is to break away from such news once you’ve hit a certain threshold. Our news cycles are too quick.

This feeds into today’s chart in the sense that in our individual lives, we can get an overabundance of information in right now. With a lot of sources, we’re liable to take the things we want to hear and give them precedence over everything else. We can give into our assumptions. There are some who might consider France a tragedy, whereas a bombing somewhere in the Middle East or Africa they can see as par for the course and not give as much weight to it. When you think about someone getting shot as they eat in a restaurant in France, you can think, well I’ve eaten at restaurants, that could’ve been me. When you think about bombings in other places, you might not take into consideration that those people could’ve been out buying groceries, or going out shopping, or going to a place of worship. The imagery you’ve seen of France in your life has generically been peaceful and of more highly developed city infrastructure; the imagery you’ve seen in a lot of the other places more routinely affected by violence is of blown up buildings, or of the after-effects of a violent attack. We see less coverage in America of culturally humanizing landscapes into how people in the Middle East, Africa, many Asian countries live their lives on a day to day basis. This feeds into a bias where many lose sight of the fact that out there are people just like them living a world away, just trying to get by like everyone else.

To wrap it up, one of my thoughts is that as we progress onward into the next century, it’s going to be a lot harder to sell war when it’s easier for the common man to know who his country is fighting. In World War I and II, it was easier to depict the enemy as monsters if you never saw them firsthand. In 2015, you can go on youtube and watch videos of the people you don’t know and see them in a human light. You can interact with them via social media. You can see them living lives much like your own. When that is your understanding of a people, it’s harder to look at the news and shrug off the devastating events that happen across our world. Best of luck.

The Daily Horoscope for Cancer

When things go down, you aren’t likely to jump up to the forefront to lead the charge today. And that’s okay. The big thing is that you fill your role and do what is asked of you. You can take your role to a new level, and inject it with a strong level of creativity and ingenuity. But when you step outside of the bounds of what you’re asked to do, you can start to get uncomfortable, and that’s when things will seem to move too fast for you.

Daily Tao

The Tao is empty
When utilized, it is not filled up
So deep! It seems to be the source of all things

It blunts the sharpness
Unravels the knots
Dims the glare
Mixes the dusts

So indistinct! It seems to exist
I do not know whose offspring it is
Its image is the predecessor of the Emperor
